Summer is Here!!!
Summer has finally arrived, and if you are like me it seemed a long time in the coming. This past winter was simply too long, too cold, just too much. So now we are looking at the green grass, feeling the heat of the sun and getting to wear shorts again.
Our family enjoys the summer, Alexis (11) and Logan (9) love fishing with me, when I have time, and this summer I do plan to make more time for that. Morgan (16) she is my Seadoo buddy. Any time I go out she loves to come out and now that she is 16 she can drive legally too. She does have a need for speed! Thankfully we are on water with lots of space. Matthew (25), Logan, Alexis, Madison (16) and I either coach or play on soccer teams. Madison you may spot working a lot at Valumart in Virgil in the deli section, be sure to hi!
As a family we love picnics after church along the Niagara Parkway, with the grandbabies, and all our children. Taking in some swimming, riding the Seadoo, playing games, taking in the sun and of course enjoying wonderful food that my wife makes. Another activity that we always enjoy is Thursday nights at the Fonthill drive in. Thursday night is “Car Load Night” at about $15/vehicle. With seven kids, two grandsons, a son in law, a pretty wife and several of the kids friends we fill our 12 passenger van many times over the summer. Once there we unload the back seat on to the grass, set up our long line of lawn chairs and get out the bug spray. We enjoy the big screen outside with the people we love.
Then our high light of the summer is spending a week or two with all our extended family at Alleghany State park.; where we rent several cabins. We enjoy evenings around the camp fire telling stories, the mornings eating breakfast outside, Cray fishing in the creeks & playing at the beach in the afternoon. My parents are entertained for hours (and I mean that) playing Canasta, a favourite card game of theirs, and now my in-laws. Writing about these things has me longing to do them all right now.
We would love to hear what you like to do during the summer. Perhaps it would motivate us to try something new too. So like us on Facebook and post what you love to do. Let the summer fun begin!
Humour is the Best Medicine
A man went to the cinema. As he sat down to watch the film and his eyes got accustomed to the dark, he noticed a dog sitting on the seat beside him. He was somewhat bemused but decided to try and ignore the dog. As the film progressed he noticed that the dog was reacting appropriately to the scenes. For laughter the dog wagged his tail and barked, for sadness he dropped his ears and whimpered, for violence he growled and bared his teeth. At the end of the film the audience applauded and the dog got up on all paws and barked and wagged his tail. The man turned to another who appeared to be the dog’s owner and said, “Wow, that was a great film, and what an intelligent dog you have there. Frankly, I’m amazed.” “So am I,” replied the owner. “He thought the book was terrible.”
A baker is tending to his shop when a dog walks in, puts 5 pieces of bread in a bag and approaches him and hands him a $10 bill. The baker is amazed and the dog barks for his change. The baker is even more amazed so he gives the dog his change and the dog puts $1 in the tip jar. The baker cant believe it so he follows the dog home. The dog walks into an apartment building and presses the elevator button. The baker gets into the elevator with him and the dog pushes the 8th floor button. When they get there, the dog walks down the hall to door number 807 and rings the doorbell. A man opens the door, and angrily grabs the bread and hits the dog with a newspaper… The baker yells out: “Sir, wait a second! Your dog is amazing! He came to my bakery, picked up 5 pieces of bread, paid for them, asked for his change, tipped, walked home by himself, took the elevator and rang the doorbell! Why on earth do you scold him!?” The man replies: “Dude, it’s the fourth time this week he forgets his damn key!”
