Deals that seem too good to be true…
Like any other industry there will always be a wide range of companies- the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I wish it was not that way but in my thirty plus years of cleaning I have seen everything from extremely poor and damaging cleaning, to con men who are out to get as much money out of you as they can for as little cleaning as possible. So beware! beware of;
- Cold Callers – there is a reason why they are calling! Because they can not get clients other ways. Reputable companies by and far use regular advertising methods instead of these high pressure and intrusive sales tactics. We have built our business over the years by thrilling clients, repeat clients, clients who refer us to their friends and family. Never have we resorted to cold calling – HANG UP!! and save yourself a lot of grief.
- Heavily Discounted Specials – All companies will advertise specials but beware of prices that seem way to good to be real. I have been called by embarrassed clients who thought they could save a lot of money using one of these deals, only to call me and see if I could fix the mess they left. Hey who doesn’t like to save money? But you don’t save anything when you pay for something that does not do what you expected it to do. So beware, if they have to offer a steep discount or some cheap room by room price ask yourself, Why are they offering it? Mostly likely because no one would pay their regular price and you will likely get a little bit of cleaning with a whole lot of high pressure sales.
- High Priced Companies – Hey everyone is allowed to charge what ever they want, make as much or as little profit as they want, but I do take offence when I see companies doing EXACTLY what we are doing charging 2-3x what we do. Not long ago my retired parents took their car in for an oil change and after some high pressure sales they were convinced that they needed $2000 worth of additional work. Well I checked out prices at several reputable places and found their prices to be roughly half. When I called back to the shop that did the work and asked why the big price difference, their answer basically “well your parents agreed to the price!” Again that is their right, but you have the right to get VALUE for your hard earned dollar, we are not a low end or “cheap” company we sell value. Price is what you pay, and but Value is what you get. Over paying is almost as bad as paying too little and getting a shoddy job. So if you want the best possible cleaning, by Certified staff, fully insured, with the most complete warranty available to protect YOU not us! Then call us, you see we want you for a repeat client, a client that will tell their friends, who will tell their friends and so on and so on, Well you get the picture. Just beware.
Vacuuming is essential to keeping your carpets looking and lasting longer. Carpets in high traffic areas such as hallways, family rooms and living rooms for example should be vacuumed 2-3x per week, other areas should be vacuumed once a week. We are often asked what is the best vacuum to buy, much has to do with operator preference but do your research, very often the most expensive vacuums are NOT the best performers. Consumers Reports is a good place to compare models, we use a commercial up rights and have gone thru several brands till we found what we felt was the very best vac for us.
Carpet types and piles:
Carpet have come a long way since I started cleaning, so many choices. They are far more durable and stain resistant then ever before and that is good news. Twenty year wear warranties are not unheard of. We are often asked what we recommend, so much though is determined on the areas being carpeted. High traffic, lots of sun light, amount of furniture moving and colour wanted are all factors to be considered. Some types wear well but crush easily, others are very plush and soft but might not wear so well in high traffic areas. So consider the following when purchasing your new carpets;
- NEVER go cheap on the underpad. A good cushion between your carpet and subfloor not only feels great when you walk on it but goes a long way in helping to extend the life of your carpet.
- It pays to buy the best you can afford, then borrow a bit more money from family and buy even better quality carpet. You really do get what you pay for. Recently I had new rug installed in my daughters room, it was more than I expected. My wife and I thought about it for a few days and decided it was better to buy a high end rug that will last 20 years as to save 25% and have a rug that will last 10 years and look worn out in 5. It just pays and you will enjoy it so much more!
